class session for 2022-2023
riding season.
ALL MINNESOTANS BORN AFTER DEC. 31, 1976, MUST HAVE A
SAFETY CERTIFICATE TO OPERATE A SNOWMOBILE IN THE
STATE!
This training is the final portion of the MN
DNR Youth Snowmobile Safety Training Online Course.
If you have a driver’s license this certification will
be indicated on your license at next renewal.
Nonresidents certified in snowmobile safety training in
another state or Canada will be recognized in Minnesota.

Location - Practical (driving
test)
'Over the snow' test will occur at the same location as
classroom. Practical
exam happens regardless of snow conditions.
Supplies Needed in Advance
Complete online MN DNR Youth Snowmobile Safety
program. Course information and a registration number
will be provided after we receive the preregistration
form and fee.
Cost
$5 - Must be paid with registration. Fee
will be waived for anyone Joining NWT. An additional $5
must be paid to the DNR after attending the class. All
instructors are DNR Certified volunteers and are
unpaid. We do incur costs from time to time such
as hall rental, clothing and sled costs. To insure
classes in the future, any additional donations of cash,
snowmobile gear or clothing would be greatly
appreciated.
Check/Money Order for the $5 payable to:
Northwest Trails Association sent with registration for
non-members.
Age Requirement
Students must be 12 years old
by March 31 of next year in order to enroll in the
course (no exceptions per law).
Your child must bring a copy of his/her birth
certificate or a prior firearms or ATV safety
certificate to prove age to the first class. We don't
collect the copy, we just need to see it.
Registration
There are 50 seats open for this course.
Applications are taken until all seats are filled; we
typically receive 100+ applications so register early to
guarantee a seat.

- Your $5 fee to NWT must accompany the
registration form in order to be considered
