Be a safe rider; follow the 10 Commandments of Snowmobiling... they may save your life. 10 Commandments of Snowmobiling
Youth Operators Snowmobiling Can Be
Safe & Enjoyable For All Founded in 1973, the Northwest Trails Association is an organization of local snowmobiling families dedicated to promoting a safe and enjoyable snowmobiling experience. This group of dedicated volunteers works diligently every year to provide 150 miles of trails in the northwest suburbs. Chances are, you have ridden on one of the trails we maintain. You can help us keep snowmobiling alive in the northwest suburbs by not catering to negative stereotypes and by following the common sense rules of safe snowmobiling. Please be courteous and respectful of others - especially local property owners who have graciously allowed Northwest Trails to cross their land. Stay within trails marked by orange diamonds and obey posted and statutory speed limits as well as local hours of operation. The state snowmobiling speed limit is 50 miles per hour, but may be lower in some areas that are posted. Educate yourself about local ordinances by calling your city hall. Be a safe rider by wearing proper safety equipment at all times and by preparing for harsh weather conditions. Stay off ice that is less than six inches thick and always error on the side of safety. Do not make a ride on thin ice your last ride - there are too many beautiful trails to enjoy. Approach and cross roads with caution and respect for motor vehicles, especially at night, when your stopping distance may very well outpace your headlights. Most importantly, never drink alcohol and ride a snowmobile. Live to ride again and continue the tradition with your children. Northwest Trails Association invites you to become a member by joining us at 7:30pm the first Tuesday of each month at the Medina Entertainment Center. |
